About Us

Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Pulaski County were originators of the Arkansas River Trail, starting with the first sections on the North Little Rock side in 1993. Through 2011, these three local governments have combined over $62 million in federal, state, local, and private investment in the Arkansas River Trail, and the investments keep coming. In 2012, the Arkansas River Trail became the Arkansas River Trail System, as the cities of Maumelle, Mayflower, Conway, and Bigelow, Faulkner County, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Arkansas Parks and Tourism, and the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly manage and promote the trail westward through Faulkner and Perry Counties. Metroplan, the council of local governments for Central Arkansas, facilitates all activities on behalf of the above signers.
